March 2020
important announcement
Since Mackenzie opened his gallery in Richmond more than thirty years ago, Arthaus has grown into the most wonderful community of friends, customers, colleagues and staff. We united initially through the love of Mackenzie’s art, but our connections now flow deeper: we know your families; your life stories and the ups and downs of your everyday lives. So, in all this turmoil, as friends do, we want to reach out to every one of you, and send our love, thoughts and hope, for you and your family’s safety at this very strange time.
As everyone’s well-being is our priority, we have decided that from today Arthaus will be closed and all future events cancelled until further notice. As normal however, we will still be responding to emails, so please keep in touch, even if it's just to say hello! We are still able to send items out by courier and if there is anything you were intending to collect in person, we can arrange that, whilst also adhering strictly to recommended social distancing guidelines. Please contact us for details of how to coordinate this. |
"The Reunion"
We will still be posting on our social media platforms and always love hearing from you, so let’s all keep our spirits up, help each other, stay safe and keep this great community going.
With love from Mackenzie, Susan and all at Team Arthaus |

When he heard an auction is being held to raise money for victims of the horrendous flash floods which caused devastating damage to more than 300 homes and businesses in Swaledale, Arkengarthdale and Wensleydale, he was keen to help. Here is Mackenzie to tell you more... The auction for “Silver Lining” was held on the 19th October and raised thousands for the flood victims. |

During his tour of Japan in April, Mackenzie Thorpe received an honorary professorship from Seisa University. Mackenzie has been a popular artist in Japan for a number of years and is holding a series of exhibitions across the country as part of his 30th anniversary world tour. Mackenzie was awarded with the professorship at a ceremony in Yokohama in recognition of his artistic endeavours and work with national dyslexia charity, Edge. The Middlesbrough-born artist spoke to guests about his journey from the shipyards of north-east England to becoming an international artist, how his working-class roots continue to influence his art, and the impact Yorkshire had on him with this year marking the 30th anniversary since he took a huge leap of faith and moved to Richmond and started trying to sell his work. |
IN APRIL MACKENZIE UNVEILED HIS Tour de Yorkshire Ride Medal The first collaboration for a Tour de Yorkshire Ride medal designed by the official Tour de Yorkshire artist More than 4,500 cyclists expected to collect the mini work of art after completing one of three courses Mackenzie Thorpe says: “At the launch for this year’s Tour de Yorkshire I was inspired hearing about ‘the Ride’ where cyclists, of all ages and abilities, will be tackling the challenging courses, all for the love of riding, camaraderie and of course to raise money for charity. I love the fact that people can join in and experience for themselves some of the excitement and thrill of the race. I was honestly delighted to be asked to design the medal and wanted to do something special, that reflected the Ride and the area, so people can take home with them a little bit of Yorkshire . I’m really pleased with how it has turned out, and hope the riders are too” Nick Rusling, CEO of Human Race says: “This medal really is something truly different. Never before have we had such a prominent artist be involved in the design of one our event medals. I love it and love the close connection we have with the elite event, with Yorkshire and with our participants. I think we have created a real collector’s item here and you have to complete the Tour de Yorkshire Ride to get one.” |
